Because of deeply held religious convictions or other personal reasons, some patients choose to abstain from blood transfusions when they receive medical or surgical care. Such patients may have had few healthcare alternatives � until now.

What is bloodless medicine?

Bloodless means that a medical or surgical treatment is provided without the use of banked (stored) allogenic blood or primary blood components. Blood loss often occurs during surgery. A bloodless program endeavors to minimize blood loss by utilizing special blood conservation methods.
