Forest Park Hospital has adopted a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of chronic wounds.

Specialized services to treat chronic wounds may be effective in facilitating the healing process.

Hyperbaric oxygen is now being used as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of a variety of clinical conditions, including:

  • Non-healing ischemic wounds
  • Refractory osteomyelitis
  • Radiation soft tissue injury
  • Hyperbaric oxygen treatment may be used in emergency conditions such as arterial gas embolisms and carbon monoxide poisoning.


Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen chambers are available and may be used to treat the following conditions:

  • Enhancement of healing in selected problem wounds
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Delayed radiation injury
  • Skin grafts and flaps
  • Thermal burns
  • Air or gas embolism
  • Gas gangrene
  • Crush injury
  • Compartment syndrome and other acute traumatic ischemias
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Decompression sickness
  • Exceptional blood loss (anemia)
  • Intracranial abscess
  • Necrotizing soft tissue infections
